Description

Prehnite, seen here as polished pebbles, was first discovered in the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, by Colonel Hendrik Von Prehn in the 18th century, and the stone is named in his honour. Composed mainly of hydrated calcium and aluminium silicate, prehnite is generally found in the cavities of volcanic or metamorphic rocks. It is valued for its translucency and hardness in jewellery and by mineralogy collectors.
