Manganoan calcite or rhodochrosite

Mangano-calcite, also known as spartaite, is a manganese-rich variety of calcite, which gives it a characteristic pink color. Often extracted in Peru, this stone can also come from sites in Eastern Europe. The pieces presented are polished, revealing a soft luminosity and white streaks contrasting with the pink. Highly prized for its delicate color, mangano-calcite was discovered and classified during the 19th century. Its use is mainly aesthetic or as a collectible, depending on personal preference.
