Pyrite specks

Pyrite, nicknamed "fool's gold" due to its resemblance to the precious metal, is an iron sulfide mineral. This specimen features typical cubic crystals with a metallic luster and a golden to steel-gray color. Pyrite forms in various geological environments, often associated with other sulfides and with sedimentary or metamorphic rocks. It has historically been mined for the production of iron and sulfur. This model clearly illustrates the crystal structure for which pyrite is famous.
