Description

Lapis lazuli exhibits a rich, intense blue color with natural pyrite inclusions that give it a metallic luster. This stone is mainly composed of lazurite. Used since antiquity, lapis lazuli was particularly prized in Egypt for ornamentation and jewelry, as well as ground into powder for pigments. The main lapis lazuli mines are in Afghanistan, exploited since 7000 BC. This mineral is also found in Central Asia, Russia, and Chile.
