Banded calcite

Zebra calcite is a variety of calcite characterized by its alternating bands of contrasting colors, often in shades of white and dark gray. Our specimen shows beautiful parallel strata that are typical of the mineral. Calcite, a form of calcium carbonate, is known for its wide diversity of shapes and colors. It forms mainly in sedimentary and metamorphic environments. Notable deposits are found throughout the world, including regions in Europe and North America. Used since antiquity for construction and sculpture, calcite remains popular in mineralogical collections for its aesthetic appeal and diversity.
