Bismuth

Bismuth is a rare metal known since antiquity, but was not recognized as a distinct element until the 1750s. It was once used in alloys and in some medicines. The shape of these crystals makes them popular for collecting and science education. The bismuth presented is artificially obtained by slow cooling of molten metal. The varied and vibrant colors are due to the fine oxidation of the surface.
