Light smoky quartz

Light smoky quartz is a variety of quartz tinted by the presence of free aluminum radicals, formed under the effect of natural radiation. These stones range in color from almost transparent light brown to a deeper brown. Their transparency and brilliance are appreciated in gemology. Widely available, smoky quartz is mined mainly in Brazil, Madagascar, and Switzerland. Historically, it has been used since ancient times for making jewelry and decorative objects.
