Galena

Galena, primarily composed of lead sulfide, is recognized for its metallic luster and intense silvery-gray color. It often occurs in cubic crystalline form and has been widely used throughout history for lead extraction. Historically significant, it was also used in the production of bullets and lead paint in ancient times. Notable galena deposits are found in Europe, the United States, and Australia. The pebbles shown here illustrate galena's ability to be polished.
