Sawed calcified ammonite

The fossil presented is a cut and calcified ammonite, exposing its internal chambers. Ammonites are fossil marine mollusks, belonging to the order Ammonoidea, which thrived during the Devonian period until their extinction at the end of the Cretaceous period, approximately 66 million years ago. This calcification is evidence of a geological process where the mineral calcite was deposited in the shell's cavities after the animal's death, preserving its spiraled and detailed structure. These fossils originate from Madagascar.
