Hematite skull

This skull is carved from hematite, an iron mineral primarily known for its steel-gray to metallic-black color. Hematite's density and hardness make it ideal for such sculptures. Historically, hematite was used as early as ancient Egypt for amulets and was often associated with war due to its blood-like color. Abundantly found in iron ore deposits worldwide, it was also used in the preparation of red pigments. This skull combines artistic, symbolic, and traditional aspects of hematite's use throughout the centuries.
