Description

Dumortierite is a rare mineral composed mainly of aluminum and boron silicate with a typically blue to violet color. First discovered in France in 1881 by the Frenchman Eugène Dumortier, it is mainly found in metamorphic zones associated with schists. Dumortierite is present in different parts of the world, including Europe, North America, and South America. It can be used as an ornamental stone, and due to its heat resistance, it is sometimes employed in the manufacture of technical ceramics.
