Blue chalcedony crystallized in a nodule

Blue chalcedony, shown here as polished crystallized nodules, is a variety of microcrystalline quartz. These nodules have a soft blue hue with lighter bands and internal cavities often lined with quartz crystals. Found mainly in South Africa, Turkey, India, and Uruguay, chalcedony was used in antiquity for ornamental art and seals. These stones, polished but not shaped, show their raw state with translucent and opaque areas.
