Aquamarine, displayed here in its raw form, is a gemstone from the beryl family, recognizable by its hue ranging from pale blue to blue-green. These colors come from the divalent iron in its crystalline structure. It was named after seawater due to its color. Historically valued by sailors for protection at sea, aquamarine was also very popular in the Middle Ages. It is mainly mined in Brazil, but can also be found in Pakistan, Russia, and Afghanistan.
